Public Relations Philosophy
Established in 1964, KYODO PUBLIC RELATIONS CO., LTD., has not only grown to become a leading, independent public relations agency in Japan, but is highly regarded by both Japanese and international clients as the only agency capable of offering comprehensive media relations services. Kyodo PR was founded by Sakae Ohashi, who is still its president. The company now has over 260 clients, and 20% of them are multinational ventures. During the years Kyodo PR has developed a philosophy based on efficiency and personal contacts with the media.
Organised for Efficiency
The customers' accounts are serviced by more than 300 core professional staff (more than 70% dedicated PR specialists, supported by a strong administrative, information security, and sales structure). The professional staff are organised into 24 account teams, each with an average of 4-5 account executives. Typical accounts are supervised by an account team leader and are assigned at least one account executive and one assistant, with other staff and/or part-time associates called in for labour-intensive tasks.

KYODO PR has maintained its leading position among Japanese PR specialist firms by dedicating resources to core activities and carrying them out strategically, creatively, and through a goal-oriented approach and according to our public relations philosophy. We waste very little time on management for the sake of management, instead devoting our time to productive activities on behalf of our clients.

An advantage of our flexibility and organisation is that clients benefit from the ample human resources of a large agency, while receiving the personal attention of a smaller, dedicated account team.

At the same time, we have maintained a flexible organization so that we can bring in specialists for particular projects, or extra staff for events or labour-intensive tasks such as mailings. That's why our public relations philosophy is based on efficiency.
Personal Contacts with the Media
KYODO PR's total resources are committed to maintaining and enhancing our relationships with reporters and editors at all levels of Japan's media structure. Contacts with the national news media centred in Tokyo, both print and broadcast, are maintained daily.

Various client events and campaigns mounted all over Japan through the years have allowed us to build close, working relationships with local newspapers and broadcast stations nationwide. Because of the mutual trust that has developed over the years, normally busy media people are inclined to give KYODO PR staff the time to speak to them, resulting in more attention for our clients.

A further advantage of developing, and maintaining, personal contacts with the news media is that it allows us to learn what is being considered newsworthy or particularly interesting at the moment, increasing our effectiveness in representing clients' interests. This information is used in advising clients and developing tactics to increase their media exposure. That's why personal contacts with the media are considered very important in our public relations philosophy.
